Request for information


The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) requires municipalities to allow access to documents and personal information under its control and custody.

The Act also enumerates exemptions that may apply to certain records that may result in refusing the disclosure.

Procedures must be respected by both the municipalities and the Requesters.

The delay to answer a demand is 30 days. It is possible for a municipality to extend the delay for answering a demand.

The requests for information must be addressed to the Office of the Clerk in writing or on the Access/Correction Form and must be accompanied of the 5$ application fee.

Regulation 823 of this Act lists all the different fees that may apply to a request for access. They are listed below:

Fees estimate


An estimate will be given to the Requester if the fees should exceed $25. If fees exceed 100$, a 50% deposit may be asked from the Requester.

Fees must be paid cash, money order or by certified cheque made payable to the Town of Hawkesbury.


Appeal rights


The Requester may appeal the decision rendered to the Information and Privacy Commissioner within 30 days from the notice of decision. Appeal fees apply: $25, if the person appealing has made a request for access to general records; $10, if the person appealing has made a request for access to personal information; and $10, if the person appealing has made a request for correction of personal information.
