What you should know

Criminal record check

To obtain your criminal record check, you must contact your district police. It takes time, thus your request must be made well before the interview.

BY-LAW OFFICER  (MUNICIPAL PROPERTY STANDARDS’ PROFILE)

 Full time permanent, unionized position - variable schedule of 40 hours per week (day, evening, weekend)

 

 Under the supervision of the Deputy-Clerk, the Officer is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Corporation of the Town of Hawkesbury’s municipal by-laws, property standards, zoning, environment and disturbance matters.  This by-law Officer is the contact person within the By-law Officers’ team for any files/records regarding maintenance and tenancy standards.

  

Skills and knowledge

 

The successful candidate will be required to obtain his certification as a Property Standards Officer and Municipal Law Enforcement Officer as soon as possible.

  

The ideal candidate has thorough knowledge of construction standards, combined with experience in interpreting and enforcing municipal by-laws, legal court procedures, laws and regulations. The person will be managing multiple files simultaneously and will have to demonstrate an analytical mind, great organizational skills, an ease in writing detailed reports and a good team spirit.

  

The candidate will have a great ability to resolve conflicts and promote the integrity of legislation and regulations for the overall image of the Council and of the municipality. Because of the responsibility to enforce laws and regulations, the person must be able to represent authority, while demonstrating tact and diplomacy at all times. 

  

Other requirements

 

  • Hold a postsecondary diploma in construction, building inspections or related field

  • Three to five years of experience in a related field

  • Hold a level I of the Ontario Association of Property Standards Officer, an asset

  • Hold a valid Class G Driver’s License in good standing

  • Excellent knowledge of French and English mandatory (oral and written)

  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

     

    Any combination of relevant training and experience could be considered.

     

Remuneration

 Hourly wage starting at $27.70, according to the Collective Agreement presently in effect.

Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Clerk is an integral part of the Senior Management Team. The Clerk provides expertise and leadership in carrying out clerk functions and By-law Enforcement to provide quality service to Council, the administration and the public.  By his position, the Clerk is responsible for the Town's legal affairs.   

 

 

 

Requirements

 

  • University Diploma specialized in law (an asset) or a related course of study plus CMO designation (an asset)

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience preferably in a similar role in the municipal sector

  • Thorough knowledge of statutory requirements of the Municipal Act and other relevant legislation

  • Excellent interpersonal and proven teamwork and management skills in a unionized environment

  • Proficient in computer skill (Microsoft Suite) including any other related municipal software

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both French and English

  • Superior organizational and analytical skills

     

    Remuneration

You enjoy teamwork and want to use your skills and knowledge to serve the citizen of the Town of Hawkesbury? We want to build a staff bank to meet the temporary needs of our team.

 

 

 

Reporting to the Manager of Municipal facilities, the General Helper assists regular staff in the clean up, preparation of recreational areas, repairs and maintenance of facilities, properties and equipment. Part of your duties will be to attend municipal facility operations, transport equipment, furnishings, or equipment for special events within the Town. You will also be required to work outdoors for the maintenance of municipal, sports and recreational installations.

Information Desk Clerk I - Sports Complex

The Information Desk Clerk reports to the Director of Recreation and Tourism. The successful candidate performs customer service duties at the front desk of the Sports Complex, monitors activities of participants, issues equipment and provides program and membership information to customers.

 

 

 

Requirements

  • Secondary education (in progress or completed)

  • Hold 6 months to a year of relevant experience (cashier, customer service)

  • Ability to learn new computer software

  • Hold a valid First Aid certificate, an asset

  • To be available to work on weekdays and weekends shifts

  • Bilingualism (French and English) oral and written

 

 

 

Salary

 

            $14.64 per hour according to the Collective Agreement presently in force.

MANAGER OF MUNICIPAL FACILITIES

COMPETITION 2020-15-02

Reporting to the Director of Recreation and Tourism, the successful candidate is responsible for the management of human, financial and material resources under his supervision. He is responsible for the planning and organization of maintenance work for the various municipal buildings and facilities, as well as monitoring the execution and evaluation of the various related programs.

ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, execute and monitor maintenance programs and activities related to the various components of municipal buildings, parks and facilities (exterior shell and interior, plumbing, electricity, splash pads, arena, swimming pool, playground) as well as green spaces, carried out by the Town’s staff or subcontractors
  • Ensure proper operation, repair and improvement of air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, heating and computerized remote monitoring, if applicable
  • Solve technical problems related to municipal facilities
  • Manage contracts under his responsibility
  • Participate in the construction, development and renovation projects of municipal buildings and facilities (writing estimates and specifications, reviewing projects, formulating proposals, monitoring implementation, etc.)
  • Prepare the budget for the division and monitor the implementation, in collaboration with the director
  • Research grant opportunities and participate in the application process.

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Hold a college degree in building mechanics or the equivalent
  • Hold a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience
  • Must have unionized personnel management experience
  • Hold a valid driver's license at the minimum Class G
  • Be available to answer calls from the emergency service (24/7)
  • Comfortable in a computerized environment
  • Have advanced communication skills
  • Have the skills to cope with tight deadlines

SALARY

This permanent full time position (40h/week) has a salary range from $64,019 to $77,886 annually. The Town offers a very attractive complete range of benefits.

SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD (external continious posting)

(part time position, on call)

 Competition: BRIG

Reporting to the Deputy Clerk, the school crossing guard ensures the safety and wellbeing of all pedestrians as they cross a street near primary schools in the territory of Corporation of the Town of Hawkesbury.

RESPONSIBILITY 

  • Analyze the environment to determine the danger zone, assess and stop traffic safely
  • Give children safety instructions and ensure they are respected
  • Control dangerous behaviour of children during crossing of the street
  • Collaborate in school safety campaigns
  • Perform any other task related to its function and/or required by its immediate supervisor    (e.g. special events)

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bilingualism (French and English)
  • Knowledge of traffic and safety rules
  • Responsible, punctual, cautious and vigilent
  • Excellent visual and hearing acuity
  • Physical condition necessary (standing work)
  • Having one (1) year of relevant experience with such clientele, an asset
  • First aid training, an asset

NORMAL HOURS OF WORK

Depending on the street, crossing guards work between 7h30 and 9h00 in the morning also between 14h15 and 16h00 in the afternoon.
