NOTICE OF STATUTORY PUBLIC MEETING FOR THE OFFICIAL PLAN REVIEW
Under Section 17(16) of the Planning Act
TAKE NOTICE that the Town of Hawkesbury invites all interested persons to attend a Statutory Public Meeting to consider a new Official Plan for the Town’s Draft Official Plan, pursuant to the requirements of Section 17(16) of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, as amended.
TAKE NOTICE that the Town of Hawkesbury will hold this Public MEETING on:
Date: March 9, 2026
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: Town Hall, 600 Higginson St., Hawkesbury, ON, K6A 1H1
WHAT IS AN OFFICIAL PLAN? An Official Plan provides direction and policy objectives for the growth and development of the community and establishes where land uses (e.g., residential, commercial, and industrial) should be located. The Official Plan covers a broad range of topics including housing and future development opportunities, transportation, and economic development. The Official Plan works in conjunction with other municipal planning documents, such as the Zoning By-law, to guide the patterns of development in the Town. All lands within the Town are addressed by the policies of the Official Plan.
WHY ARE WE REVIEWING OUR OFFICIAL PLAN? The purpose of the new Official Plan is to update the policies to conform to planning legislation and policies from the Province of Ontario, the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, government agencies, as well as input from members of the public.
WHY IS YOUR FEEDBACK IMPORTANT? The Official Plan affects everyone in the Town of Hawkesbury. Your input is important for the Town prior to adopting a new Official Plan. Public consultation provides the opportunity for residents to participate in reviewing and updating the policies and planning direction of the Town.
THE PURPOSE OF THE Public MEETING The purpose of the public meeting is to provide members of the public with an opportunity to provide comments to Council on the new Official Plan. Prior to the Public Meeting, the Draft Official Plan and Schedules (maps) will be available for review.
Please visit the Town’s website at www.hawkesbury.ca under “News” to learn more about the review process and to obtain a copy of the Draft Official Plan. This information and material will also be made available to the public for viewing at Town Hall.
PUBLIC COMMENTS Oral and written comments will be considered at the public meeting. Written comments will be accepted until Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. and may be submitted to the Town Contact as outlined below.
Written comments received by the date above will appear on the public meeting agenda on the Council calendar webpage prior to the public meeting.
If you wish to participate in the public meeting in person, you may do so by attending the meeting at the above-noted date, place, and time. To ensure your comments are clearly understood and received prior to the council making a decision, you are encouraged to submit written comments prior to the public meeting, even if you intend to attend the public meeting.
PUBLIC RECORD Personal information is collected under the authority of the Planning Act and the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c. 25, as amended. The information collected will be used to complete the Official Plan process and will form part of the public record. Questions about this collection should be addressed to the Town Contact.
