      UNIDIRECTIONAL FLUSHING OF THE DRINKING WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

      Starting Monday, April 22, 2024, the Environmental Service will proceed to its annual unidirectional flushing program of the drinking water distribution system. It will be performed from Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., for an approximate period of 5 weeks.

      Cloudy or discoloured water

      When flushing is being done in your area, you may notice a slight drop in water pressure, with or without a cloudy or reddish (rust) coloration of the water. We understand this can be disturbing but please note that this colouration does not pose any risk to your health.

      Here are some tips:

      Always check the colour of the water before If possible, activities such as laundry and dishwashing should be done during the evening. If your water is cloudy or coloured, leave the cold-water taps running until the water returns This should not take longer than 5 minutes. If the water doesn’t clear in 5 minutes, wait 30 minutes and try again. Use hot water only when cold water is clear If you still experience low pressure or coloured water after 30 minutes, please contact us at (613) 678-9269 or by email at RegularLabs.EmailProtector.unCloak("ep_c3d1bb4e", true);RegularLabs.EmailProtector.unCloak("ep_69157237");RegularLabs.EmailProtector.unCloak("ep_e2ba6019", true);. Outside office hours, if the problem is urgent and cannot wait for the reopening of the offices, contact the Fire Service Dispatch Center at 613-632-1105. Unidirectional Flushing Program Schedule

Before undergoing any type of work on your property, no matter the nature and size, check with the Building Department if a building permit is required.

It is important to plan your project in advance, especially during summer months, where the Building Department is busier.

To make sure you submit a complete application, pdfdownload the documents and drawings required for permit applications.

In recent weeks, we have seen a significant increase in permit applications. Delays are to be expected, our priority is to do everything possible to ensure the processing of each request.

I need a permit for what type of projects?

Under the Ontario Building Code Act, a building permit is required to construct, demolish, renovate, alter, install or change the use of a building. The following is a list of typical projects or situations that require the issuance of a building permit:

  • Addition of a dormer;
  • Raising a dwelling to provide a full basement;
  • Sunroom;
  • Install a sign;
  • Above-ground and in-ground swimming pool;
  • Replace exterior siding.

A permit is not required for the below projects

It is not necessary to obtain building permits to perform the following work. However, you must comply with the requirements of the Zoning By-law and if applicable, the Ontario Building Code.

  • Retaining walls less than 1 metre (39.4 inches) in height;
  • Sidewalks;
